Located in the suburban alleyways of Rishikesh, the Beatles Ashram is also famous as “Chaurasi Kutia” and “Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram” by the locals. This ashram got popular after the world famous band “The Beatles” visited the sacred place. They were inspired by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who was proficient in practicing meditation and yoga. It is after the visit of the legendaries only that the Ashram came into limelight and Rishikesh was given the title of “Yoga Capital of the World”.
In 1968, the rock band spent a number of days in the ashram and composed more than 50 songs in those days. However, as the ashram was built on the land of the forest, the occupants were evacuated from there in 2000 and the ashram was left there as it. A new life has been given to the Beatles Ashram on December 8, 2016 when it was reopened for the tourists.
Along with experiencing the serenity at the legendary ashram, you can have a look at the stunning paintings and graffities done by the visitors. Also, it is a great place to take pictures. Though you can visit the ashram anytime, the best time is March to April.
