The temple of Sankat Mochan Hanuman is a Hindu temple. It is located in the city Varanasi on the bank of river Assi. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This temple was constructed in the 15th century by the Tulsidas. The Lord Hanuman is here named as Sankat Mochan because he is the reliever from the troubles. The temple has many monkeys outside so it also famous as monkey temple. It is one of the most blessed temples of Lord Hanuman.
The statue of lord hanuman is decorated with Sindoor and offer eatable things to the Lord Hanuman which includes special Ladoo of Besan. Many devote offer the flowers of Marigold to the Lord Hanuman. It is a unique temple as the statue of Lord Rama and Hanuman is facing each other. Many devotees put sindoor on their forehead from the statue of Lord Hanuman. The special prayer is done by many visitors which include hymns of Hanuman Chalisa and Sundar Kand. It is also said that Lord Hanuman protect humans from the bad effect of Lord Shani.
The temple undergoes many changes and repairs from that time. Earlier, the temple is very small in size but later it is extended. The best time to visit this temple is at the time of Hanuman Jayanti. The birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated with great joy. A Parade is also organized at this time which is known as Shobha Yatra. It starts from the Temple of Durga Mata and ends at the temple of Sankat Mochan Hanuman. The tourists can also visit other nearby places including Annapurna Temple, Mritunjay Mahadev temple, Kalbhairav temple and Sankatha Temple. The temple organizes a special music and dance festival in the month of April every year.
The tourists can also enjoy and purchase things from the outside shops. There are many shops who are selling clothes, rings, flowers, sweets and other things. The temple gets more crowds on Tuesday and Saturday. The opening time of the temple is 5 AM to 10 PM. The morning aarti also knew and Pratah aarti is done at 5 AM and the evening aarti also known as the Sandhya aarti is done at 10 PM.
