Nagaland

Nagaland is rich in primeval beauty and it is a mountainous state in North Eastern part of India. You will find hills and valleys everywhere. Kohima is the capital of Nagaland. The warrior Naga tribals had helped defeat the Japanese army in the world war – II in the Kohima. The people of this state are known as Nagas. Some major tribal sects are Chang, Ao, Angami, Khemungan, Phom, Tangsa, etc.

Each tribal community has their own unique culture and they all prefer to stay in rural areas. The naga’s dance shows their vibrant and dynamic culture. Men and women dress in traditional costumes and sing songs along with dancing. Some of the popular dance forms are Zeliang dance, Cock dance, Cricket dance, Fly dance, etc. The state is dominated by tribal communities and each one of them is unique in their own ways.

People here do not marry into the same community and they encourage marriage outside of their social group. The major occupation of nagas are animal husbandry and agriculture. There are several oil reserves too in the state. Rice is the staple food here and it is accompanied by vegetables and meat.

This state has a sense of mysticism to it and it is intensified by the remoteness due to its location. The Hornbill festival showcases the entire culture of Nagaland. This festival also showcases the seven sisters of India. There are several tourist attractions in the state which are Kohima war cemetery, Naga heritage village, Khonoma village, Dzukou Valley, Kachari ruins, Japfu peak, Hongkong market, etc. Some of the major cities are Dimapur, Kohima, Mon, Peren, Kiphire, etc. If you like isolated mountainous places with the majestic beauty of nature then you must visit Nagaland.
