Mahabodhi Temple, also known as the Great Awakening Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Buddhist temple is located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar which is about 96 km from Patna. Among the four holy sites related to the life of Lord Buddha, this one holds a prominent place.
The temples were constructed in the Gupta period and are one of the earliest Buddhist pilgrimages that stand wholly in bricks. It was the Mahabodhi Temple only where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment in the 6th century BC.
The temple was built in 3rd century BC by Emperor Ashoka. The complex has the scared Bodhi Tree and 50 m high grand temple with several other shrines. Visit the place, if you are in search of tranquility.
