Kashi Vishwanath Temple is situated amidst the crowded lanes of Varanasi. Earlier the place was also known as Kashi and Benares, while Kashi changed to Varanasi, Kashi Vishwanath Temple went with the same name. One of the 12 Lingams of Lord Shiva is located in this temple only and to worship the Jyotirlingas people from all across the country gather here.
To the locals, the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple is also known as golden temple due to its gold plating. The 15.5-meter high spire is covered in gold plating and worth a visit.
The temple has been rebuilt many time, and it is believed that the original one was built in the year 1490.The latest structure of the standing temple dates back to 18th-century and symbolizes the man’s desire to live in harmony and peace.
