Zanskar Valley (Leh)

On the way from Leh to Kargil, there is a very beautiful place where two rivers are meeting each other. This point is famous as Confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers. The water of Indus River looks shiny blue color whereas the water of Zanskar River looks dirty brown and green color. The origination of both the rivers is from the Himalayas. The river Zanskar originates from the ranges of Zanskar whereas the Indus River originates from the Cold Desert of Changthang. Both of these rivers meet at a spot near the Nimmu in Ladakh. The rivers look very beautiful from the height. It is located 6km from the city Nimo and 35km from the city Leh. It is connected with NH1.

In the summertime, the flow of water in the Zanskar River is fast and the flow of water in the Indus River is slow. It is just the opposite in winters. The Zanskar River slows down whereas the water of Indus River flows at a faster rate. This is due to the freezing of Zanskar River which makes the flow slow. The Indus River also has floating ice on it and it freezes in patches. When the Zanskar River freezes completely in winters a trek name as Chadar trek enabled on this river.

The tourists do chadar trek on this river and enjoy the beauty of both the rivers in winters. The mountains covered with snow from all the sides make this place more beautiful. In summers, the tourists can enjoy the view of both the Rivers. The tourists can also enjoy a 2 hours rafting in the Zanskar River from the place Chilling to Nimmu.
