Chaukhandi Stupa

The Chaukhandi Stupa is a very popular monastery of Buddhist. It is one of the most important Buddhist culture momentums in India. It was built on the place where Lord Buddha gets the lessons first time from bodh Gyan to Sarnath. It is located in the Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh.

During 4rth to the 6th century, the temple was thought to be built like a terraced temple. Later, it was modified by the Later Govardhan to the shape it has today. It is also said that in 1589 AD, this stupa was built by Akbar in the honor of his father Humayun.

It is an octagonal shaped tower. It is the holiest and most visited tourist’s Buddhist spot in India. The visitors can feel the spirituality in the air around it. It is one of the extreme momentums located in the Sarnath. It is also said that the visitors can get huge blessing by walking around this stupa.

The visitors can also enjoy the beautiful view at the time of sunset from the gardens. The Chaukhandi stupa also has some images and statues of Buddha. The structure of the stupa is constructed with the help of bricks. This makes it easy to break. It is a three terrace structure. Each terrace is 12 x 12 feet in height and length. The total height of the stupa is 200 feet. It is the best place for meditation.

The tourists can also visit many others nearby stupas. Some of them are Dhamekha stupa, Dharamajika Stupa, Thai Buddha Vihara and many other stupas as well. The Chaukhandi Stupa is just 10 km away from the Varanasi city. The nearest railway station and airport is in Varanasi. The tourists can hire cab or taxi to reach this place.
