Bara Imambara

One of the most popular momentums of the Lucknow city is the Bara Imambara. It was constructed by the Nawab of Lucknow so it is also known as Asfi Imambara. It is the worship place for the Muslims. The Muharram festival of Muslims is celebrated every year with great joy.

On the upper portion of the momentum, there is a complex network which is also known as Bhul Bhulaiya. Many visitors visit this momentum to see its amazing Bhul Bhulaiya. In 1784, this momentum was built by the Asaf-ud-Daula who was the fourth Nawab of Awadh.

The architecture of the Bara imambara is very beautiful and unique. The central hall in this momentum is one of the largest halls in the world. The hall is 50 meters in length and 15 meters in height.

The hall is constructed by using the interlocking system of bricks and blocks. The momentum is constructed by using bricks of Lakhani and Lime plaster. These bricks are smaller in size. There is no use of girders, metals, wood, and beams in the hall and the roof of the hall stand without any pillars. The visitors can also view the Asaf-Ud-Dowlah crown and grave.

The momentum took 14 years to its completion.  It was designed by the Hafiz Kifayat Ullah and Shah jahana bad. These two are the popular architecture of that time. The momentum gets completed in 1 million rupees. There are two large gateways through which the visitors can access the Bara imambara.

On one side of this momentum, there is a baori and Asafi Mosque on it’s another gateway side. The visitors can also visit these places. There is also a Rumi Darwaza, which is said to be the copy of Istanbul’s entrance gateway. The visitors can also visit the beautiful white mosque, which is located near this momentum.

The visitors can also enjoy the city view from the top of Bara Imambara. The visitors can also hire a guide to see the bhul bhulaiya without getting lost in it. It is also better to carry your own torches. There are also secret tunnels in the momentum.

The opening time of the momentum is from 6 am to 5 pm. The visitors can take buses, autos, and car from Lucknow to reach Bara Imambara. The entry fee for the Indians is Rs 25 and for the foreigner, it is Rs 500.
