The tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah is located in the city Agra. It is just 4 km away from the Taj Mahal and situated on the bank of river Yamuna. It is located just next to Chini ka Rauza. The title of Itmad-Ud-Daulah was given to the father of Nur Jahan, Mirza Ghiyath. The tomb was completed in 1628 AD by the Nur Jahan.
The tomb was dedicated to the Mirza Ghiyas Beg. He became the Wazir in the Akbar’s court during 1605. Jahangir fell in love with the daughter of the Mirza Ghiyas Beg. Her husband was a Persian. She entered into the court of the Jahangir after the death of her husband in 1607. After few years Jahangir got married to her. There she was also famous as Nur Jahan. The construction of the building started in 1622.
The tomb is a two-storied building that is surrounded by the square gardens. The garden has minarets located in is every corner. Its building is situated on a higher platform which is around 3 to 4 inches in height. It is 149 square feet in measurement. There is a central hall in the tomb which has the grave of Wazir and his wife. The hall also has many other chambers of small size which belongs to the other members of the family. The visitors can reach the first floor by using staircase made up of marble. There are four round towers located on the top of the tomb. These are around 40 feet in height.
The ground walls are decorated beautifully with the Persian writing. The structure is built by using white sandstone. The colored stones are used beautifully to create geometric patterns. The visitors can also enjoy a beautiful view from the entrance roof. This tomb is also famous as the baby Taj Mahal. It is the first structure of Mughals that was built with marble and on the bank of river Yamuna.
The opening time of the tomb is from sunrise to sunset. The entrance fee is Rs 20 for Indians and Rs 210 for the foreigner.
