Har Ki Pauri

A well-known ghat in Haridwar, Har Ki Pauri is the place where the holy river Ganga exits from the Himalayan Mountains. The name of this ghat has its own significance- “Har” means “Lord Shiva” and “Pauri ” means “Step”. Thus, this place is the way to reach Lord Shiva and seek his blessings. It has been believed that by taking bath at this ghat, one can get rid of his sins.

Also, according to the Hindu mythology, Lord Vishu and Lord Shiva visited Brahmakund in Har Ki Pauri in ancient times. The large footprints on the stone wall are believed to be of Lord Vishnu’s and devotees pay their obeisance to the footprints in order to seek the blessings of the Lord.

Ganga Aarti, an obeisance paid to the river Ganga, is performed at Har Ki Pauri every morning and evening. Devotees from all over the world visit this auspicious place to have a bath in the Ghat and to see the grand procession of Ganga Aarti.
