Dhamek Stupa,Varanasi

Dhamek Stupa is located in the Sarnath, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the most popular Stupas in India. It was constructed in 249 BCE by king Ashoka. The structure was later changed in 500 CE. The Dhamek Stupa was reconstructed many times and gone through many additions.

It is made up of stone and red bricks. It is 43.6 m in height and 28 meters in diameter. It is a cylindrically shaped structure. It is most famous structure near Varanasi. Lord Buddha after attaining Bodh Gyan enlightenment he lectures his five disciplines at this place. The Dhamek Stupa symbolizes the deer park. The upper part of the stupa is made up of bricks and a lower half is made up of stones.

The base structure of the stupa is similar to the Ashoka period. The structure has 8 different sides. It is designed beautifully by using high quality of craftsmanship. The design of birds, flowers, humans and other things make it look beautiful.

The Dhamek Stupa is just 13 km away from the Varanasi. The visitors can visit this place at any time of the year. The opening time of the Stupa is from sunrise to sunset. The entry fee for the Indians is Rs 5 and for foreigners, it is Rs 100. The visitors can hire a cab or book any taxi from the Varanasi to reach this place.
