Golghar is a beautiful architecture located in the Patna state of India. It is constructed as a storehouse by the captain John Garstin in 1786. It has the high capacity of storage and can never fill fully. The door of the Golghar always opens towards inwards only. This is due to some construction default. It offers a beautiful view of the river and city from its top. It is located little away from the city and in a peaceful location. So, many people come here to take some rest from the city life.
The structure of the golghar is very interesting. It is surrounded by the stairs of 145 steps that helps to take you at the top of the golghar.It was built by using the architecture style of Stupa. This structure was completed in the 20th July 1786. Earlier, it was named as the Granary at Patna. The structure is 29 m in height and 125m in diameter. The thickness of the walls is 3.6m. this structure can have the capacity to hold 140000 tons of items.
It is a structure which stands till date without having any pillar. It has a very simple design. The top of the golghar has a hole from which the grains bags can be dropped easily and safely inside it.
The tourists can enjoy the fresh air and beautiful view of the city from the top. Many people enjoy the view by arranging a picnic in the garden of the golghar. It was also constructed for storing grains or food in case any disaster or food shortage. It is also decorated well with colorful lights, fountains, laser show, and sound effects this makes it look more beautiful and attractive. All these things have been started from 2013 for the purpose of attracting more visitors.
The entry fee in the golghar for each person is Rs 5. It remains open from Tuesday to Sunday and remains closed on Monday. It opens at 10 am and closes at 5:30 pm. The entry fee for the laser show is Rs 30. It is located near the Gandhi Maidan which is just 8 km away from the Airport and 7 km from the bus stand.
