Nestled in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and spread over an area of the 845 sq km, the Simlipal National Park is named after the red silk cotton trees, known as Semul. The park is home to India’s three main animal species- Tiger, Gaur and the Asian Elephant and had remained a major hunting ground for the rulers of Mayurbhanj.
The picturesque park in Mayurbhanj is credited with the major wildlife sanctuaries and is the most prominent tiger project in India. The area of Simlipal is gifted with immense biodiversity and numerous varieties of faunas that set a perfect ambiance through a cool breeze emerging out from them. The park is considered as the perfect location for forest camping.
There are 432 wild Asian elephants, 99 tigers, 42 species of mammals, 30 species of reptiles and 242 species of the birds that one can easily find in the Simlipal National Park. Apart from that, it has 1076 species of plants which belong to 106 different varieties, 96 species of orchid and a wide range of herbs.
It is not only the park itself that will surprise you with its flora and fauna but you will be highly mesmerized at the stunning natural beauty of the nearby attractions which include Jaranda Falls, Barheipani Falls and some others.
