Guru Gobind Singh was the 10th Sikh Guru and Prophet-teacher of the Sikh faith. Guru Gobind Rai was born in Patna in Bihar in 1666. He took the responsibility of a prophet at a very small age after the martyrdom of his father.
He bravely engaged in the warfare fighting against the tyranny of Mughal rulers. It’s during that time when Mughal rulers used to suppress the faith of Sikhs and other religions. At the age of 11, he got married and became the father of four sons. Being a prolific writer, he compiled the book Dasam Granth.
At the age of 30, he introduced the concept of Amrit Ceremony of initiation and took the name Singh. Battling against the Mughals, he was robbed of his sons and mother. The 10th Guru met death at the age of 42, but his legacy lives in his creation, the Khalsa.
Even the Langar legacy was started by him when the childless queen of that time used to feed him with his favorite Chole Puri. You can still see the Langar serving Chole Puri on the Guru Gobind Jayanti.
